Quest Builds the UK’s First Relocatable PET-CT Scanner

A new standard in flexible diagnostic imaging, designed, built and delivered by Quest for Cobalt Health in Partnership with Siemens Healthineers.

Quest has achieved a major milestone in UK healthcare infrastructure with the design and construction of the United Kingdom’s first relocatable PET-CT scanner. Built for Cobalt Health in partnership with Siemens Healthineers, this pioneering project demonstrates how engineering, design and technology can work together to make advanced diagnostic imaging more accessible across the country.

Developed by Quest’s Environments division, the relocatable PET-CT unit provides the same level of performance and compliance as a permanent facility, while offering the flexibility to be installed, relocated and operated wherever demand requires. Quest managed the complete end-to-end delivery, from structural design and fabrication to installation and commissioning. The bespoke build incorporates:

• Custom trailer engineering for clinical stability
• Full radiation shielding and temperature-controlled environmental systems
• Integrated link corridors and seamless hospital connectivity
• Compliance with all PET-CT operational and safety standards

This innovative solution enables hospitals to maintain diagnostic capacity during redevelopment work and allows new imaging facilities to be deployed rapidly where additional capacity is required. It represents a practical, high-quality answer to one of healthcare’s most pressing challenges: delivering advanced diagnostic capability closer to patients.

The new relocatable PET-CT scanner, now operated by Cobalt Health, expands national imaging capacity and helps reduce waiting times for critical diagnostic procedures, including oncology and cardiac scans. Siemens Healthineers supplied the advanced PET-CT system integrated within the relocatable unit, ensuring image quality, safety and reliability equal to fixed-site installations.

Together, these organisations have set a new benchmark for how diagnostic technology can be delivered, combining world-class medical imaging with the flexibility of relocatable infrastructure.
